Yeast Infection Medication
It is believed that over 75% of women will experience yeast infections at some time during their life. Basic yeast infection symptoms include itching, burning, redness, and swelling of the vaginal area. Yeast infections are not just uncomfortable, but can seriously harm someones quality of life as physical activity can be affected including sex. Many women are looking for the perfect yeast infection medication that will cure all their problems instantly. Unfortunately, this is not the case as medications will work differently in each individual case.
Yeast is a fungus and is treated most of the time with anti-fungal medication. Many of these medications are creams that can be purchased over the counter. The debate rages if these creams are effective or not but some people have reported that many of the OTC creams have been effective. There are also oral medications that can be prescribed from your physician if the condition is seen as severe enough and has not responded to milder treatments such as creams.
Another thing that must be mentioned is that by treating the symptoms such as the itching and irritation, the patient will not cure the actual infection. Rather, they are basically masking the symptoms. To cure they infection, the patient must take oral medications including antibiotics and sometimes vaginal creams.
Thre are several different options when it comes to yeast infection medications and much depends on how serious the infection is and if the infection is recurring. Some of the medications on the market include butoconazole, clotrimazole, miconazole, nystatin, tioconazole, and terconazole. These medications can be in the form of tablets, ointments, creams, or vaginal suppositories.
If you suffer from yeast infections and need help in determining what type of medication or treatment would be best for you, talk to your physician about a plan of action. Most of these medications are safe and side effects are minimal but you still need to discuss these with your doctor.
